Campervan Hire FAQs: Your Questions Answered by 365 Camperhire
Hiring a campervan or motorhome for the first time is exciting, but we know it also comes with plenty of questions. At 365Camperhire, we’ve helped thousands of travellers hit the road, so we’ve put together answers to the things we’re most often asked. Whether you’re new to campervan hire in the UK or planning a longer motorhome hire in Europe, here’s what you need to know.
Do I need to fill up with water?
Yes – your campervan comes with a fresh water tank that you’ll need to keep topped up. Most campsites across the UK and Europe have designated filling points, and it’s as simple as attaching the hose or using a container to refill. Fresh water is used for the sink, shower (if your motorhome has one), and flushing the toilet.
Do the plugs work on electric hook-up?
Absolutely. When you connect to mains electric at a campsite, the standard UK 240v plug sockets in your campervan or motorhome will work just like they do at home. If you’re not hooked up, you’ll still have 12v power from the leisure battery – great for lights, USB chargers and the fridge, but not enough for high-powered appliances like a hairdryer or kettle.
What about solar power?
Many of our campervans and motorhomes at 365CamperHire are fitted with solar panels, which help keep the leisure battery topped up when you’re off-grid. This is ideal if you’re wild camping in the Scottish Highlands, exploring the Lake District, or heading across Europe without electric hook-up.
Do I need levelling blocks?
Not essential, but recommended! Campervans and motorhomes are best when parked on the flat – your fridge works properly, the water drains where it should, and you sleep better. Campsites in the UK are usually pretty level, but if you’re parking on uneven ground (for example, in rural Europe or coastal areas), levelling blocks make all the difference. At 365CamperHire, we can provide them if you need.
Is the WiFi option worth it?
Many of our customers love having onboard WiFi. It usually works better than relying on your phone signal, especially if you’re travelling through rural areas of the UK or Europe. While no system is perfect (remote valleys can still be patchy), it’s a solid option if you want to stream, work remotely, or keep the kids entertained on the road.
How does the campsite discount work?
As part of your campervan hire in the UK or motorhome hire in Europe with 365CamperHire, you’ll often get access to campsite discount schemes. This means cheaper nightly rates at hundreds of participating sites across Britain and the continent. Ask us for more details.
What is the £1200 security deposit for? Can I arrange CDW?
The security deposit is standard across the campervan hire and motorhome hire industry. It covers things like insurance excess or minor damage. It’s fully refundable when you return the vehicle in the same condition you received it. If you’d prefer to reduce your liability, we also offer Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), which lowers the excess and gives you peace of mind.
Do I need holiday insurance?
Yes – we strongly recommend it. While our insurance covers the vehicle, holiday insurance protects you and your belongings. It can cover things like trip cancellation, personal medical needs, and valuables.
What about child seats and IsoFix?
Yes – safety comes first. At 365CamperHire, all of our campervans and motorhomes are fitted with seatbelts suitable for child seats. Some vehicles also have IsoFix points, making it quick and easy to fit modern child seats securely.
If you’re planning to travel with children, let us know when booking and we’ll help you choose the right vehicle. You can either bring your own child seats or, in some cases, we can arrange them for you. Please note that, just like in a car, child seats must be used according to UK and European safety laws.
What’s AdBlue – and do we need it?
AdBlue is a liquid that helps modern diesel engines reduce emissions. Some of our campervans and motorhomes use it, and if so, you’ll see a warning light when it’s running low. Don’t worry – it’s cheap, widely available at fuel stations across the UK and Europe, and easy to top up. At 365CamperHire, we’ll show you how before you set off. The AdBlue is full up before you leave so it’s unlikely you will need any on your journey.
Can I take my bike(s) with me?
Yes, absolutely! At 365CamperHire, many of our campervans and motorhomes come with bike racks, so you can bring your bikes along for the adventure. It’s the perfect way to explore local trails, cycle into towns, or just enjoy some exercise on your trip.
If your chosen vehicle doesn’t have a bike rack fitted, let us know in advance – we may be able to add one, or suggest the best storage options. Just remember to double-check your bike size and weight so we can make sure everything fits safely.
Travelling in Europe: What You Need to Know
Taking your motorhome hire to Europe is one of the best ways to explore the continent, and with 365CamperHire, it’s simple. Here are a few essentials to keep in mind:
Insurance & Breakdown Cover – Our campervans and motorhomes come with European insurance and breakdown assistance, so you’re covered across most EU countries.
Travel Documents – You’ll need your passport, driving licence, and vehicle hire documents. Some countries also require proof of motor insurance (we’ll provide this).
Equipment Requirements – Different countries have specific rules (e.g., reflective vests, warning triangles, and spare bulbs in France and Spain). We’ll make sure your campervan is equipped with the essentials.
Tolls & Vignettes – Some European countries charge motorway tolls or require a vignette (a type of road tax sticker). It’s worth checking your route in advance.
Ferry & Eurotunnel – Travelling with a campervan is easy – just book the correct vehicle category when reserving your ticket.
Campsites & Aires – Europe has thousands of fantastic campsites and “aires” (dedicated overnight parking spots for motorhomes). They’re often cheaper and more convenient than hotels.
With the freedom of campervan hire in Europe, you can wake up by a beach in France, enjoy the Alps in Switzerland, or explore historic cities like Rome and Barcelona – all from the comfort of your own home on wheels.
