Enjoy Six Nights in France in an Expedition C73

6 Days in France with 365camperhire.co.uk

Motorhome trip around Northern France

I’d never really thought six nights could feel too short, but that’s exactly what happened on our recent motorhome trip around northern France. My partner Pete and I hired a brand new Auto-Trail C-73 from Jonathan and, honestly, we didn’t want to bring it back!!

The motorhome itself was brilliant. It was very clean when we collected it and had everything we needed already on board. We kept discovering little bits that made life easier – the extra-long phone cable with several adapters on the end in the front was such a useful touch.

After a full day out exploring, it was lovely to come back, make a cuppa and relax.

We hired it in early July 2026 during a heatwave but the air con in the cab when driving along was really effective. Even at night, with all the van windows open and the bug screens pulled across it was cool enough to sleep peacefully.

6 Nights was not enough

Pete is an airline pilot, so he’s no stranger to large vehicles! Even so, he’d never driven a motorhome before and had never even travelled in one. I think he was expecting it to feel huge and awkward, but within a few miles he was completely at ease. He kept saying how easy it was to drive and how quickly you forgot about the size. That definitely made the whole trip much more relaxing for both of us.

France on the Eurotunnel

We crossed over to France on the Eurotunnel and headed first to Le Touquet. We found a lovely spot to wild camp by the beach for our first night and it was the perfect way to start the holiday. We didn’t arrive until about 11 at night but it was so peaceful. That lovely feeling of finally being away from home with nowhere to rush to!

Omaha Beach.

From there we drove to Aure sur Mer, where we spent two nights staying in Pascale and Sevrine’s beautiful back garden (yes they’ve literally converted their garden into space for up to four motorhomes). It’s such a peaceful little place and very cosy, only about a fifteen-minute walk from the sea and close to Omaha Beach.

Bayeux is also only a few miles away if you fancy a visit. The whole area felt calm and unspoilt, and we could easily have stayed longer. Try some of Pascale’s homemade honey, it’s incredible.

Blangy-sur-Bresle

Blangy

Our next stop was Blangy-sur-Bresle, where we wild camped beside the river for a night and had a BBQ. It was another peaceful place to park up, and there was even a nearby campsite where we topped up our fresh water before carrying on. It’s those little practical things that make travelling by motorhome so straightforward.

Camping de la Ferme des Saules

For the final part of our trip we stayed for two nights at Camping de la Ferme des Saules, right on the French and Belgian border. It’s a family-run campsite on a working farm with a super friendly atmosphere. The sunsets there were gorgeous and we loved wandering over to the farm shop to pick up fresh ham and cheese to make baguettes for lunch.

Ypres for dinner

On our last evening we drove into Ypres for dinner. It was an easy drive from the campsite and we were pleasantly surprised to find free parking in the main square from 6pm until 9am the following morning. Sitting outside with a steak and beer and watching the evening go by was a lovely way to finish the holiday.

Six nights really wasn’t enough

Looking back, six nights really wasn’t enough. We covered a good bit of northern France but never felt rushed, and travelling by motorhome gave us a massive sense of freedom. We came home already talking about where we’d go next. One thing’s for certain, we’d happily hire a motorhome from Jonathan again.
